In collaboration with state and regional partners, TIME fosters an innovation culture, supports efforts to upgrade our technology and infrastructure assets, and creates innovation hotspots in the region.
The TIME Initiative is establishing Northwest Alabama as a leader in rural technology and innovation. By improving infrastructure, fostering innovation hotspots, and connecting communities to cutting-edge resources, we’re equipping businesses and individuals with the tools they need to thrive in the modern economy. From education to broadband access, TIME is creating a culture of innovation in our region.
Program Goals
Education and Workforce Development
- Prepare students for tech-intensive careers in industrial technology and advanced manufacturing, including CAD design, robotics, drones, and industrial engineering.
- Expand access to two-year tech tracks in fields such as automation, mechatronics, cybersecurity, app development, and video game design.
- Promote STEM, IT, and tech education for all age groups.
- Coordinate with statewide workforce development initiatives like the Talent Triad.
- Build partnerships with universities.
- Investigate healthcare specialization programs to build on the region’s strong primary care systems.
Technology and Innovation Partnerships
- Support Freedom Fiber and other telecommunications partners in connecting local businesses and entrepreneurs to tech networks.
- Cultivate partnerships with innovative tech companies committed to rural development
- Collaborate with organizations like Innovate Alabama, the Appalachian Regional Commission, Alabama STEM Council, and other entities focused on promoting rural innovation to enhance our tech and STEM offerings, including initiatives in local high schools.
- Create innovation hotspots and explore the development of a physical innovation center for training, coworking, and entrepreneurship.

- Collaborated with City Detect to utilize AI for a windshield survey assessing housing conditions in the region.
- Partnered with Touch Click Video to create an interactive regional marketing video: watch the video.
- We are employing drones creatively to plan for industrial development and address environmental challenges.
